Three of us were assigned to the Medical Oncology ward. It was 1400hrs and we went into the office behind the Nurses station. Handover sheets were given to us. We were given brief introductions to all present. Two ACU third-year students were there for the shift as well. Without the students and the Charge Nurse that left six nurses. I think the ACU students took one or two patients each as well. Essentially, eight Nurses to twenty-six beds. A good ratio I thought. After a rundown of Falls risks patients, BSL’s, and other sensitive patient information, we were divided amongst the staff, and the Bedside handover began.
